One after another, victims are found accompanied by an image or video taken before their death of them holding a sheet of paper with that phrase written all over it. The detectives search for answers as the body count continues to rise. Who is committing these heinous acts, and why? I could be wrong, but it appears that this was made using an iPhone. For a film that looks like it was entirely shot on a tiny computer that fits in a pocket, there are plenty of creative compositions that keep Please Respond from looking repetitive....

Rather than unfold as a fluffy sci-fi thriller, “Reversion” instead focuses on the resulting amorality of a being living in a non-linear timeline. It also gives us a look at what kind of life this would make…and it does that a little too well. It’s a bad deal when midway into the film you just want someone to come in and briefly explain what the hell it is that’s going on....

“Wake” begins and ends with a significantly older Sebastian (Martin Landau) typing at his typewriter. His voice-over narrations operate as a storytelling device. If Finch means to generate viewer-identification with Sebastian, intent doesn’t translate into result. In fact, none of the characters resonate enough within the viewer for there to be any sympathizing in the scenes that would ordinarily demand and receive it. Consequently, an audience would feel like it’s caught in the middle of a family dispute, watching but not relating....

Opting not to get the girl proper medical attention, they decide to take her body to a nearby abandoned warehouse, where they remove her teeth, cover her with plastic, and leave her there to rot. Five years later, the group discovers that the building is scheduled for demolition so they must return to re-hide the body before anybody knows it’s missing. But is she dead, or isn’t she? That’s just part of the fun of watching this piece....

What’s it like being the little cute kid from “Dazed”? Has it been a benefit or a burden since that movie has now become a cult classic? Nobody knew who I was or cared while I was in LA, so I don’t think it has made much of a difference. Pretty much every film I have worked on has been independent and I still have to have dayjobs, so I don’t really know....

For the most part, Johan A. Bergqvist’s Amber doesn’t tread all that much new ground; the idea of a hardened criminal, or strong and silent loner, affected by his new traveling partner, whether it be a young kid or other innocent he must protect, is pretty familiar at this point. What maybe isn’t so common is the fact that our protagonist M is pretty much a massive bastard throughout. While he may have opportunities for redemption sprinkled here and there, the majority of his choices are of a violent or otherwise morally questionable variety....
