Oculus Reviews Film Threat

Director Mike Flanagan has crafted a taunt little short, which features a tour de force performance from Scott Graham. By encapsulating the action in one stark white room, Flanagan forces Graham to carry their entire crux of the film on his shoulders. Graham takes the role in stride and provides an extremely naturalistic portrayal in what could have easily been a montage nightmare of scenery scarfing. The concept of an evil entity is nothing new, but Flanagan imbrues his film with a wonderful “less is more” aesthetic, by only glimpsing the mirror in brief flashes and focusing the bulk of the story on the terrible history of the object....

Ravana S Game Reviews Uncategorized Film Threat

As the same time, Eden Sullivan (Kristen Martha Brown) is beginning to have strange dreams that seem to be connected to the murders. As she follows the path her dreams are setting out for her, it takes her to the house of Castile (David Cascadden), a chess aficionado with a very strange chess set, that may be the key to solving the murders. My main criticism of David Eblen’s feature film, Ravana’s Game, is that it tosses an awful lot at you, confusing an overabundance of plot with quality....

Each of these women embed their roles with visceral emotion and heartbreaking anguish, especially Sharon Warren. In one astonishing sequence, she breaks down over the coffin of a younger son who was drowned in a freak accident. Warren throws her body and soul into the moment, shattering the environment with a depth and scope which goes far beyond mere acting — it is a moment of genuine pain which will devastate anyone who witnesses this....

Safety Reviews Uncategorized Film Threat

Writer, director and co-star Rory Uphold’s short film, Safety, is a melancholy experience wrapped in the comedy of uncomfortable. At first you’re laughing a bit at the scenario; are these two really going to have sex, when it’s painfully clear that there is no chemistry between them at all? By the end, however, it all turns depressing as the reality dawns that no one is going to get what they really want out of this....

Tag Check Out Reviews Film Threat

Like the best supernatural tales, one is left with a certain level of the ambiguity. Does the tormenting Aki actually exist as an external threat to Miki, or is Miki’s own internalized guilt starting to act out on her? Perhaps what we’re witnessing is the decline of Miki’s sanity moreso than a malevolent spirit. Or if it is a spirit, perhaps not so malevolent after all. Shane Ryan’s Tag is a quality, disturbing horror short that plays on a number of genre conventions, including the idea that a naked, dead Asian woman is just inherently more frightening onscreen than most....

But beyond that concept is a deep, provocative and often disturbing drama which poses questions of love, art, mortality and grief with the grace and majesty of Rilke’s work. The poet himself figures in the film via flashbacks which recreate the physical and emotional circumstances behind “Requiem for a Friend.” Rilke’s situation was one of great tragedy. His dear friend, the artist Paula Modersohn-Becker, died during childbirth. Rilke’s devastation over her passing was scarred by his inability to reconcile the manner in which she died – it was as if she threw away the iconoclastic triumphs of her work (which was not common in the early 20th century) to embrace the rigid traditions of motherhood....

The Troubles We Ve Seen A History Of Journalism In Wartime Film Threat

“The Troubles We’ve Seen: A History of Journalism in Wartime” was made in 1994 (its American release was held up for years due to a long-simmering dispute which is mercifully settled).
