Leo (Asher Deva) is an intelligent scientist with a single mission in mind. He’s using a pig named Tacoma to test a serum that will turn failing organs into healthy ones. He’s aided by The Woman (Aylya Marzolf), who encourages him and tells him that this must be for both of their sakes. But the man has hit a wall, and he cannot get around. Then, by sheer happenstance, his server at a local diner, Alejandra (Karrie Martin Lachney), glimpses at what’s working on and figures out the problem....

Another thing that worried me was that he was a fan of this stuff, and when you’re too much of a fan you focus on the “cool” rather than the “good”. These movies were based on a formula and if you don’t understand why the formula worked you’ll end up with Wrong Turn instead of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974 version, of course). So does Zombie know his stuff? Was I wrong to avoid “House of 1000 Corpses?...

Jim is the main character, and his career is not going well. Specifically, a co-worker screwed the pooch on a massive project, and now the big boss is berating said person over the phone. Jim hears every word of it, all while prepping for a big meeting just after lunch. But that meeting gets delayed, so after work, he heads home and watches a movie with his wife, Jill. Upon going to bed, the film enters Jim’s dreams....

The film opens up with a nice (and brief) telling of fairy folklore with the help of animation. As soon as the film transitions into live-action, things happen very quickly. Without much build-up, a woman suspiciously disappears into the woods. We are then introduced to the Richards family, who received a letter from a great-aunt asking to visit as soon as possible. After the agreement to visit the aunt at the farmhouse, the mother, Kate (Julia Czartoryski), begins having nightmares of a mysterious woman visiting her in her childhood....

These early devices, which created the illusion of movement through a series of rotating images, laid the groundwork for what would eventually become cinema. However, it wasn’t until George Eastman created the first celluloid roll film in 1885 that the foundation for modern film was truly laid....

The prince of Wales, called Hal (Timothée Chalamet) by his friends, is in open conflict with the politics followed by his father, the dominant Henry IV of England (Ben Mendelsohn), and consumes his time drinking alongside Sir John Falstaff (Edgerton), a brave commander who also fell in disgrace after heroically battling for King Richard II. Uneasy, Hal takes action in assistance of his bland younger brother, Thomas (Dean-Charles Chapman), to whom the throne was promised by their dying father, and defeats the rebel Henry Percy (Tom Glynn-Carney) in a head-to-head armored dispute....

But we live in a society that judges people by their appearances. It’s a sad fact, but a fact all the same. And last year, Lilith looked all the world like a vampire princess, her black hair streaked with red, her pale skin white against the black of her usual con costume. So it came as no surprise to hear that last year, following the Dark X-Mas horror convention, Lilith had a run-in with some police in one of the more conservative towns in Ohio....

After decades of building an unassailable top-notch restaurant dining experience, they have achieved a rare relationship based on mutual respect and adoration resulting from their culinary success. Doudin and Eugenie have a devoted following of raving foodie fans. A small group of well-heeled gentlemen come often to dine and invest in Dodin’s endeavors. They also keep him apprised of new trends in cooking and rising stars among the local chef aspirants....

While the film retains some level of nuance, it still tells one side of a (perhaps deceptively) multifaceted story. If you’re looking for depth and measured debates and solutions, this is not the place to look; at eleven minutes, this is the biased, broad strokes. Enough to make you think a little, but any real study will have to be self-motivated. Which is not to say that the piece is disposable propaganda by any means, just that it has its point to make and it makes it....

Zweig devotes much of the film time to interviewing Toronto record collectors—scroungers, really–in their homes; their stories range from the small fry to the grandiose; in particular, one man owns over a million records, and his goal is to collect every single record ever made. Zweig’s questions are not often pointed—he allows his fellow collectors to speak freely and candidly about their collecting habits. Their honesty is surprising; for obsessive-compulsive collectors, nearly all recognize, or at least acknowledge, that perhaps their habit was a substitute for something missing in their lives....

What makes this year’s lineup truly remarkable is its diversity, both in terms of themes and cinematic styles. The chosen films span over a century of cinematic history, from the 1921 Kodak educational film A Movie Trip Through Filmland to more recent classics like 12 Years a Slave and the documentary gem 20 Feet from Stardom, both from 2013. Notably, the registry doesn’t limit itself to just independent or low-budget productions....

“Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon” is a mockumentary on the life of up and coming serial maniac Leslie Vernon. This film exists in a world where characters like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers are real. It’s Leslie’s mission to be ranked amongst them and he invites a documentary film crew to join him on a killing spree, all the while revealing the tricks of the trade in this bloody business....

On the surface, Dad (Ewan McGregor) has taken his estranged Daughter (Clara McGregor) on a road trip for some bonding time. Most of the movie is just the two of them in the car. As they drive about, we gradually learn some shocking revelations. A dropout from art school, daddy’s little girl is now a sickly drug addict. She has a thin, spidery physique with a ghostly white face. Her bladder is uncontrollable....

The date begins with the typical pleasantries. Justin brings a bottle of wine. During dinner, the two engage in conversations about their individual lives and vocations. David becomes so enamored with Justin that he asks him to remove his shirt so he can paint his portrait. Things are going well until both reveal they have been doing some stalker-like research on one another. Uncomfortable with the situation, Justin decides to end the date, but David locks the door and keeps Justin prisoner for unknown reasons and an indeterminate amount of time....

When Eric Deng (Xavier McKnight) shoots the driver in the leg to incapacitate him, he is found not to have a concealed carry permit and is arrested. As he is an immigrant from Uganda, the U.S. is currently contemplating deporting him as punishment for owning a gun without a permit. To prevent his deportation, Deng’s parents hire David Eguasa (Kenneth Okolie) and his partner/love interest Lola Henderson (Dawn Halfkenny). Framed within the tale of defending Eric is the family drama David experiences from his relationship with Lola....

Philip, Fidelis, Billy, and Sante have big dreams of changing their homes for the better, and due to lack of opportunity, an education in the U.S. of A. is critical to their patriotic pursuits. The filmmaker is inspired by their desire to create change, their sense of duty and commitment to their families, and provides a comforting shoulder for them as they realize that America also has its own problems....

Husband and wife Dan (Max Woertendyke) and Jen (Dana Berger) are out for a run. She’s pissed as he made an a*s of himself the night before. Dan is trying to defend himself, though Jen remains mad that his stupid antics mired her promotion celebration. Jen decides to keep running to a specific trail in the woods. Dan wants to continue their conversation, so he reluctantly follows. However, once in the forest, the trial is elusive....

The latest spawn to be unleashed from Troma film guru Lloyd Kaufman, “Citizen Toxie” is a noxious cauldron of broken bones, bouncing breasts, and body fluids sucked through a whirring blender set for “puree.” In the tradition of past Troma gut-rippers like “Class of Nuke ’em High”, “Tromeo and Juliet”, and “Terror Firmer”, Kaufman shows what mankind can accomplish, using a hollowed out cantaloupe stuffed with cranberry sauce and run over by a speeding truck....

Even in George Washington’s day, having theatrical skills was a bonus. The Father of Country used gestures he learned from watching stage actors to punctuate his speeches. It would also be unfair to criticize him for his youth because Alexander Hamilton wrote his first Federalist essays in his teens. Where Weiner seems to differ from the Founding Fathers is that he’s still living with his mom (hey, homes in the Big Apple are expensive) and that he has no connections or experience....
