Young People, Old People & Nothing In Between features outstanding performances from Piamwiriyakun and Kungsadan. The two have palpable chemistry and add to the character arcs with each scene. As the plot progresses and Grandma Lovely’s memory fades, the emotional impact is earnest due to how the relationship is set up in the first half. The filmmaker creates a funny, sweet, and deeply personal narrative by centering the story entirely around Juice and Grandma Lovely. Tantiwasadakran has crafted a beautiful character-driven short film with Young People, Old People & Nothing In Between. Her previous work includes the witty Red Ladies or Help! My Mom is a Republican, and seeing her create a heartfelt, true-to-life story about dementia that is still no-less-funny makes me excited for her future. In a 20-minute runtime, the director tells a gripping story of a found family that serves significant character moments by focusing on the relationship between Juice and Grandma Lovely. Though quick, this is a compelling journey of love and empathy.
